Becoming Max

Posted by the Solivas

Sat 31 Oct 2009

When Jonathan was 1 year old, before he had much of an opinion on such things, he was Max from the book Where the Wild Things Are for Halloween. Now 6, Jonathan surprised me when he asked to be Max again.

School’s Out For Summer

Posted by Ken

Sat 13 Jun 2009

Yesterday was a big day for the Solivas—it was Jonathan's last day of kindergarten. Some people say that you learn everything you need to know about life in kindergarten. So, I thought it would be fun to ask Jonathan what he learned this past year.

Our New Fishy Friends

Posted by Ken

Sun 08 Feb 2009

Here is a photo of our new fishy friends. They seem to like their new home—when they aren't dying. I honestly don't know what our expectations should be with $3 fish from the pet store.

Trick or Treat

Posted by Ken

Sun 16 Nov 2008

Hello everyone. I know that we haven't posted anything here in a really, really long time. Yes, I also know that we suck. I'd go into some lengthy explanation about how I deal with websites all day long and don't have any energy for doing more of the same when I get home, but that would take too much energy.

Going to San Francisco Bay

Posted by Ken

Sat 30 Sep 2006

I have stood on California soil several times in the past, but never north of the Los Angeles county line. So, when presented with the opportunity to go to San Francisco for work, Jeanine and I quickly packed our bags for a little getaway.

Devil’s Lake State Park

Posted by Ken

Mon 31 Jul 2006

It is shaping up to be a typical summer in Wisconsin. Temperatures have consistently registered in the upper 80's and into the 90's over the past few weeks. And, because this is Wisconsin, the heat usually comes with quite a bit of humidity and very little rain. Last Sunday, we decided to brave the weather and the great outdoors for some hiking at Devil's Lake State Park in Baraboo.

Sun 11 Jun 2006

In case you didn't know, I am a bit of a soccer fan. Not one of those overly aggressive types that engages in hand to hand combat after his favorite team loses a match, but a fan indeed. In fact, one of the only reasons I was on board with the decision to get HDTV was that I was really looking forward to this year's FIFA World Cup.

It looks like spring is finally near. Jonathan has spent the past few months asking us when the Easter Bunny will be arriving. After some suspense, the bouncy fellow came through in the end with some Scooby Doo stuff, and let's not forget the jellybeans!

Our Southwest Adventure

Posted by Ken

Sat 31 Dec 2005

The adventure began very early one December morning at Midway airport in Chicago. “Now pre-boarding Southwest Flight 1006 M.” We were getting on a plane with my parents and older brother Tom to spend some time with family during the holidays. Escaping the Wisconsin winter just happened to be a nice bonus. The first stop on our trip was fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada, where my sister Jamie now lives.

Much Fun This Halloween Was

Posted by Ken

Wed 02 Nov 2005

I cannot remember having so much fun for Halloween since I was a kid. I suppose that having an excuse to act like a child again is one of the perks of having children of your own. Anyway, Halloween kicked off early this year with my Mom and I spending a few days designing and making Jonathan a Yoda costume. I'll be the first to admit that I am a perfectionist, but I honestly couldn't believe how well the costume turned out.

Such Great Heights

Posted by the Solivas

Fri 20 May 2005

It rains a lot in Portland, Oregon. Every so often, the rain pauses just long enough for the sun to peek its head through the clouds. If you happen to be in the right place at that time, you may catch a glimpse of a rainbow. Let us remind you that this is very rare, as it rains a lot in Portland, Oregon, but we already covered that.
